Jie Jie and Uncle Cat are two illustrators from Taiwan and Hong Kong. They co-founded the illustration page “Jie Jie Hong Never Stops” through their shared creativity and unique perspectives on life. This page showcases their interesting works and has become a bridge for cultural exchange, greatly cherished by fans from both places.

Originally from Changhua, Taiwan, Jie Jie graduated with a degree in graphic design from university. After graduating, he worked at a design company in Kaohsiung, where he was primarily responsible for graphic design and advertising creativity. In 2011, through the introduction of his friend Uncle Cat, he decided to seek further opportunities in Hong Kong. His life and work experience in Hong Kong deepened his understanding of the cultural differences between the two places, which later became a significant source of inspiration for his creations.
Uncle Cat is a native Hongkonger. He has worked and lived in Taiwan for a period, gaining a profound understanding and affection for Taiwanese culture and society. As a design enthusiast and illustrator, Uncle Cat has a tremendous passion for art. His works often depict the small details of everyday life, transforming ordinary scenes into thought-provoking artistic creations through humour and satire.

TW: Most Taiwanese people will scroll through their mobile phones before bed, but staying up until about one or two o’clock is the limit. They sleep longer than the people of Hong Kong .

TW: Most Taiwanese people use motorcycles as a means of transportation, so they inhale exhaust fumes daily.
In 2013, Jie Jie and Uncle Cat decided to collaborate and establish the “Jie Jie Hong Never Stops” page, beginning to publish their observations and thoughts on the cultural differences between Taiwan and Hong Kong. The page quickly attracted a lot of attention, and their works, with a light-hearted and humorous style, delicately portrayed people’s life scenes and social customs in both places. Their “Big Differences Between Taiwan and Hong Kong” series of illustrations sparked widespread online discussion and resonance.

Many Hong Kong people take the subway to commute and must be crammed into the same carriage with tourists and suitcases.
TW: Some Taiwanese people currently only commute by MRT in Taipei and Kaohsiung, and there is a huge difference in the number of people using MRT between the north and the south.

TW: After most Taiwanese people go home, shower, and tidy up, they surf the Internet, listen to music, slowly sort out their emotions, etc.
Besides artistic creation, Jie Jie and Uncle Cat keep up with current events, such as the recent Paris Olympics. When Hong Kong’s “World One” Kong Man Wai won gold and “Sword God” Cheung Ka Long historically defended his title, they published creative illustrations to send their congratulations immediately. Likewise, when Taiwan’s badminton star Tai Tzu Ying’s campaign in Paris ended in disappointment, failing to advance to the quarterfinals, they promptly released touching illustrations to express their appreciation for her fighting spirit despite injuries. They can respond to and participate in current social and cultural events through their art, demonstrating the magic of art’s close connection with life.
