卓霈欣:在插畫創作中擁抱情緒|Pei-Hsin Cho: Transcribe emotion when creating illustration

當你第一眼看到插畫家卓霈欣的插畫作品,你會被她作品中細膩且溫柔的視覺語言、生動而強烈的情緒表達所打動。卓霈欣國小時就開始學畫,從台北藝術大學動畫系到英國皇家藝術學院視覺傳達與插畫系,再到出版繪本《漁夫和他的靈魂》,她的作品一直獨樹一幟,圍繞著情緒展開,著重敘事,催化觀者的記憶共鳴。

Upon first glance at the illustrations of artist Pei-Hsin Cho, you’ll be deeply moved by the delicate and gentle visual language and the vibrant yet potent emotional expressions within her works. Pei Hsin is a London-based visual storyteller from Taiwan, specializing in illustration and animation, she began her artistic journey in elementary school, studying animation at Taipei National University of the Arts, followed by visual communication and illustration at the Royal College of Art in the UK. With the publication of her picture book “The Fisherman and His Soul,” her work continues to stand out. Blending traditional and digital techniques, Pei Hsin weaves elaborate visual language and textures to transcribe the subtleties of human emotion into ethereal and atmospheric imagery.

為何寫實:超擬真創作的藝術與真實之辯|True to Form: Hyper-Realistic Creations Prompting the Debate Between Art and Reality

Last year, audiences were astonished by Grace Mak’s hyper-realistic paintings of Hong Kong dollars. These paintings were so lifelike that they even prompted a police investigation into the suspicion of counterfeit currency, causing a sensation in the art world. To further explore this form of artistic expression, Touch Gallery specially organised the second season of the “True to Form” exhibition this year, inviting seven artists to participate, each reinterpreting realism in their unique ways.

Since 2020, Taiwan’s illustration scene has gradually seen the rise of a “cute-style” illustrator—Joanie. With her unique, cute style and sense of humour, she steadily gained a foothold in art and commercial illustration. Whether it’s a sleepy worker overwhelmed by starchy bread or an old man’s waltz, Joanie’s works go beyond mere cuteness; her sense of humour and delicate observations of life resonate deeply with her audience.
