240 galleries shaping the Asian art landscape. This year, 32 galleries are participating for the first time, representing Japan, Australia, Korea, Greater China, Europe, and the United States. Their presence brings a younger and more diverse energy to the fair.

Encounters
The Encounters sector, dedicated to large-scale sculptures, installations, and performance works, is curated this year by Mami Kataoka, Director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. The exhibition will extend beyond the fair halls, with a special collaboration presented at Pacific Place. Highlights include a site-specific digital animation installation by Christine Sun Kim. Curated collaboratively by multiple curators, the sector embraces cross-cultural perspectives and fluid curatorial approaches, transforming the space into an immersive artistic environment.

Another major highlight this year is the Asian debut of “Zero 10.”
This global curatorial initiative dedicated to new media and digital art first launched at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2025and now arrives in Hong Kong with 14 participating exhibitors. Artist Sougwen Chung will present RECURSIONS (2026), creating a 10-meter calligraphic scroll live at the fair.
Using brainwave interfaces, biometric signals, and specially formulated inks, Chung merges traditional calligraphy with artificial intelligence, expanding a centuries-old artistic tradition into the technological present.
The project raises a compelling question: What does art look like when technology becomes deeply embedded in our everyday lives?

Echoes
One of the most anticipated additions in 2026 is the new sector Echoes.
Each booth will present up to three artists and works created within the past five years, allowing audiences to engage more deeply with artists’ current practices. The works span diverse formats—from embroidered maps and sculpted books to immersive installations.
Many explore themes central to contemporary life:
globalization, memory, identity, technology, and social transformation. Echoes feels less like a traditional fair section and more like a living snapshot of contemporary artistic thinking.

Georg Baselitz, A World That Did Not Exist, with Felt Hat

Joan Mitchell, Untitled, Oil on canvas
Commissioned by UBS, artist Phoebe Hui presents the installation Mimimomo Pool (2026). The work takes the form of a large circular, waterless swimming pool, constructed with neon signage and blue-purple mosaic tiles. Its title comes from a Cantonese onomatopoeic phrase suggesting lingering or taking one’s time. Visitors are invited to step into the pool—creating a moment to slow down, rest, and perhaps even interact with strangers amid the bustle of the art fair.
The work also raises a subtle question: How do we experience privacy within public space?
