Hong Kong Christie’s is delighted to present the first ever sale of Gold Boxes in Asia on 25 November, introducing 75 lots of very rare jeweled gold boxes with exceptional provenance with estimates ranging from HK$16,000 to HK$3,200,000. Leading the sale is the gold and hardstone snuff-box by Johann-Christian Neuber (estimate: HK$3,200,000 – 5,200,000). The iconic piece is one of the only 14 known boxes to have been signed by this most celebrated German royal goldsmith of the 18th century which makes it extraordinarily rare. Other highlights of the sale include musical and automaton boxes, necessaires, scent bottles and snuff-boxes by the greatest of the Swiss goldsmiths and watchmakers including Piguet & Capt, Guidon, Gide & Blondet and Jean-Georges Remond, as well as gold and enamel snuff-boxes by the famous French goldsmiths of the 18th and 19th centuries such as Charles Le Bastier, Melchior-Rene Barre, Jean-Joseph Barriere and Adrien-Jean-Maximilien Vachette.
