MARC CHAGALL, LIGHT AND COLOUR IN SOUTHERN FRANCE
The exhibition explores the omnipresence of light and colour in Marc Chagall’s work from the 1950s to the 1970s, inspired by the dazzling Mediterranean Sea and bright landscapes of the French Riviera. The intensity of the southern light had a profound effect on him, stimulating an artistic renaissance. Greece, where he travelled in 1952 and 1954, also became a source of inspiration. Colour, in an aesthetic and a symbolic sense, is essential to Chagall, an architecture within the composition and a vector of spirituality.

Observe / Scrutinise / Perceive
In this exhibition, the artists are observers of the ambiance landscape. They yearn to capture the insignificant ephemeral moments of the surroundings, and tend to romanticise the scenes while gazing the daily scenery, such as trees by the train station, light reflection on the cable wire, inverted imagery outside windows, light beam of television, glaring streetlights and midnight nightmares. The seemingly mundane scenery is an epiphany of the inner landscape.
