The exhibition delves into the cultural significance of royal and finely knotted carpets, regional knowledge transfer, and local artistic characteristics. Most of the items on display are from the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar, home to one of the world’s most renowned collections of Islamic art.

Also highlighted are the diverse cultural influences in the Deccan region, where the visual language of the court was inspired by Chinese porcelain and silk.

In the Mughal Empire, carpets were symbols of honor during official ceremonies. These exquisite, large carpets were used to decorate grand palaces and host royal rituals.

Notably, the Safavid Ardabil Carpet, made from the finest wool with approximately five million knots, features a repeated animal motif symbolizing the grandeur of the dynasty.

Other notable pieces include the Rothschild medallion Carpet, with its central “small sun” motif surrounded by pendant decorations, and a nearly 16-meter-long ceremonial carpet from the Sultan’s palace. There is also one of the earliest examples of an Indian silk carpet, including designs with weeping willows and prayer rugs, showcasing the creativity and cultural diversity of Islamic art across different regions.
