Streets, plants and buildings in her work, not only presenting the appearance of different places but also recording the cultural and everyday details she notices during her travels. 

建立Rainbow Draws 的Yufei Yang 在上海長大，現居利物浦。她自小便喜歡繪畫和動手製作不同物件，其後亦曾遊歷歐洲與亞洲多個地方。每到一個新的城市，她都會細心觀察當地的人物、動植物、建築、食物、字體與裝飾。這些在旅途中收集到的生活細節，逐漸成為她理解不同文化，以及發展個人創作的重要素材。 

Yufei Yang, the illustrator behind Rainbow Draws, grew up in Shanghai and is now based in Liverpool. She has enjoyed drawing and making things by hand since childhood, and has travelled to different places across Europe and Asia. Whenever she visits a new city, she carefully observes its people, animals, plants, architecture, food, typography and decorative details. These everyday elements collected during her journeys have gradually become important sources for understanding different cultures and developing her own creative practice.

在創作時，她會先整理收集到的資料，選出最吸引自己的部分，再以簡化的形狀和有限的色彩重新組成畫面。她並不完全依照照片描繪人物，而是根據初次觀察留下的印象，誇大某些外貌或動作特徵，令角色更鮮明生動。她通常先以鉛筆起稿，再利用 Procreate 發展構圖，最後以 Photoshop 和 Affinity 完成作品。攻讀兒童繪本插畫碩士期間進行的版畫實驗，亦持續影響着她的創作，成為畫面中塗鴉、刮痕與潑灑效果的來源。 

When creating an illustration, she first organises the materials she has gathered and selects the elements that interest her most. She then reconstructs them through simplified shapes and a limited colour palette. Rather than reproducing people exactly from photographs, she works from her first impressions and exaggerates certain physical features or gestures to make each character more vivid and distinctive. She usually begins with a pencil sketch, develops the composition in Procreate, and completes the work using Photoshop and Affinity. The printmaking experiments she carried out while studying for her master’s degree in children’s book illustration continue to influence her practice, inspiring the scribbled, scratched and splattered marks that appear throughout her images. 

對 Yufei Yang 而言，旅行不只是尋找漂亮風景，更是她汲取靈感的途徑。她將旅途中細微而容易被忽略的事物帶進插畫，讓不同地方的文化特色在色彩與形狀之間重新相遇。她的作品提醒我們，一座城市最值得記住的，往往不只是著名地標，也可能是街角的一間小店、一頓飯，或旅途中偶然遇見的陌生人。 

For Yufei Yang, travelling is not simply about searching for beautiful scenery, but also a way of gathering inspiration. She brings small and easily overlooked details from her journeys into her illustrations, allowing the cultural characteristics of different places to meet again through colour and form. Her work reminds us that the most memorable part of a city is not always a famous landmark. It may instead be a small shop on a street corner, a meal, or a stranger encountered along the way.
