Beachghost, whose real name is Jackson Howell, grew up on the coast of Victoria, Australia. As a child, he often drew monsters and strange little characters with his brother, and these early doodling experiences gradually became part of his later artistic practice. Anime, manga, video games and horror films have long been important sources of inspiration for him, slowly shaping his distinctive visual world. In his works, Pikachu can shine with rainbow-coloured light, while Sailor Moon can carry an unsettling atmosphere. These newly imagined figures invite viewers to revisit childhood memories through vivid colours and delicate lines, where familiar images are enlarged, transformed, and touched by a sense of unease.

Beachghost does not believe there is an essential difference between “fan art” and “art”. For him, even though these characters were created by others, reimagining them is precisely a way to express what these works mean to him personally. Just as myths and folk tales were once retold, reinterpreted and reshaped over time, childhood characters can also be looked at, understood and rewritten in new ways. By injecting the shared memories of a generation with his own fears and imagination, he invites viewers to reconsider one question: once familiar figures leave their original stories behind, what else can they become?

Beachghost prefers working with traditional tools. When it comes to colour, he trusts intuition over fixed rules. Although familiar with colour theory, he believes that occasionally ignoring it can lead to unexpected surprises. This free and vivid use of colour has become an essential element in constructing his uncanny new universe.
