One city, two ways of seeing. Francesco Lietti‘s paintings offer a “distant view” — bold colour blocks and layered compositions transforming Hong Kong’s dense skyline into rhythmic visual poetry. Martin Riese‘s collages offer a “close-up view” — fragmented images and digital reassembly capturing the details and memories of the city that are often overlooked. Both artists share architectural training, yet have taken different creative paths. But when their works are placed side by side, what you see is two souls of the same city. “Genius Loci” — the spirit and soul of a place. This is the theme of their duo exhibition, and their shared gaze upon Hong Kong.

我們每天穿行於這座城市，卻很少停下來問：香港的靈魂是什麼？Francesco Lietti 用色彩捕捉城市的節奏，Martin Riese 用碎片拼湊城市的記憶。兩種視角，兩種技法，卻指向同一個問題——當我們談論香港時，我們在談論什麼？

「Genius Loci」是KC100藝術空間十周年系列的第二個展覽。它不只是一場聯展，更是一場關於城市感知的對話——邀請我們重新觀看那些習以為常的風景。

We walk through this city every day, but rarely stop to ask: what is the soul of Hong Kong? Francesco Lietti captures the city’s rhythm through colour; Martin Riese pieces together the city’s memory through fragments. Two perspectives, two techniques — but both point to the same question: when we talk about Hong Kong, what are we really talking about?

“Genius Loci” is the second exhibition of KC100 Art Space’s tenth anniversary series. It is more than a duo exhibition — it is a dialogue about urban perception, inviting us to look again at the familiar.

弗朗西斯科·列蒂的作品是「城市的遠距離大觀」。 受建築學訓練影響，他透過色彩層疊與幾何結構，將香港密集的天際線轉化為充滿節奏感的視覺詩篇。 他的畫作《Contour 01》與《Contour 02》以混合媒材繪於剪影木板，將城市景觀簡化為線條、密度與邊界的感知痕跡。他的畫作中，建築逐漸溶解為節奏與氛圍。城市不再是主題，而成為一種感知的裝置——邀請觀者以更敏感的方式閱讀空間。

Francesco Lietti’s works offer a “distant view” of the city. Shaped by his architectural training, he transforms Hong Kong’s dense skyline into rhythmic visual poetry through layered colours and geometric structures. His works “Contour 01” and “Contour 02”, mixed media on silhouetted wooden boards, reduce the urban landscape to traces of line, density, and margin. In his paintings, architecture gradually dissolves into rhythm and atmosphere. The city ceases to be a subject and becomes instead a device for perception — inviting viewers to read space more sensitively.

利馬天：城市的微觀與碎片｜Martin Riese: The City’s Close-Up View and Fragments

利馬天的作品是「近看城市的微觀」。 他的《Spirit of Hong Kong》是一幅3D拼貼作品，將香港的視覺元素碎片化、重組，創造出多層次的空間敘事。 另一作品《Hong Kong Work Places》則以噴墨印刷於檔案紙上，捕捉城市中日常的工作場景。利馬天將建築學背景與生成式電子藝術結合，透過不斷演進的資訊系統，探索數碼時代下的視覺表達。他的作品既是對城市的記錄，也是對記憶與空間的重新想像。

Martin Riese‘s works offer a “close-up view” of the city. His “Spirit of Hong Kong” is a 3D collage that fragments and reassembles Hong Kong’s visual elements, creating a multi-layered spatial narrative. His “Hong Kong Work Places” is an inkjet print on archival paper, capturing everyday work scenes in the city. Riese combines his architectural background with generative electronic art, exploring contemporary visual expressions through evolving information systems. His works are both records of the city and reimaginings of memory and space.

建築師的畫筆：兩種訓練，一種凝視｜Two Architects, One Gaze

兩人同樣受過建築學的專業訓練，但走向了不同的創作路徑。弗朗西斯科·列蒂以繪畫捕捉城市的色彩與節奏，利馬天以數位拼貼探索城市的碎片與記憶。兩者的作品並置，形成一場關於香港的雙重奏——一個遠觀，一個近看；一個濃縮，一個重組。

Both artists share architectural training, but have taken different creative paths. Lietti captures the city’s colour and rhythm through painting; Riese explores the city’s fragments and memory through digital collage. Together, their works form a duet on Hong Kong — one from afar, one up close; one condensing, one reassembling.

背景 BACKGROUND

弗朗西斯科·列蒂出生於意大利科莫湖畔的萊科，在米蘭、巴黎及倫敦修讀建築與城市規劃，曾任職於凱達環球（Aedas）等國際著名建築師事務所，自2006年起定居香港。 他於2017年全職投入藝術創作，將建築的精準度與繪畫的表現力完美融匯。

利馬天出生於加拿大，曾服務於皇家空軍，其後成為建築師，在Norman Foster及Frank Gehry的事務所工作過。建築對他而言，不只是空間的設計，更是理解世界的方式。他最終選擇了香港作為創作基地，將建築學背景與生成式電子藝術結合，探索數碼時代下的視覺表達。

Francesco Lietti was born in Lecco on the southern shore of Lake Como, Italy. He studied architecture in Milan, Paris, and London, and worked for renowned international architecture firms including Aedas in Hong Kong, where he has resided since 2006. He dedicated himself to art full-time in 2017, merging architectural precision with painterly expression.

Martin Riese was born in Canada, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force before becoming an architect, working with firms including Norman Foster and Frank Gehry. For him, architecture was not just about designing spaces, but a way of understanding the world. He eventually chose Hong Kong as his creative base, combining his architectural background with generative electronic art to explore contemporary visual expression.
