Chrilz is an American drawer whose evocative work exists at the vibrant intersection of Neo-figurative and Neo-expressionist art. Utilizing colored pencil and graphite with striking intentionality, Chrilz employs the human form as a profound vessel to explore the core of our shared existence: our emotions, relationships, and experiences. He describes his creative drive as fueled by “the culmination of life unfolding,” positioning his practice as a constant dance between raw emotion and layered concept. Each piece is an aggregate of deliberate choices, meticulously composed to serve a final, captivating dichotomy that seeks to enrapture viewers and resonate across the spectrum of human feeling.

Chrilz’s process is both a personal and universal excavation. He sees himself as a conduit, receiving input from his own life and the lives of others, which then manifests as visual work. With nothing considered outside his compositional reach, he freely employs color, realism, imagery, and text in service of his conceptual intent. This approach is central to his major, ongoing body of work, POST-MODERN, a collection of converging and diverging series that critically examine how human life is transformed and often abused by the modern, technology-driven era. Within this framework, series like windows delve into the distortion of personhood through digital interfaces, while the last five years offers a raw, emotional scrutiny of the artist’s vocation itself.

A flagship example of his critical lens is the series 21st Century Royalty, a satirical and poignant reimagining of royal portraiture for the digital age. Here, Chrilz adorns his figures in a signature “computer blue,” symbolizing a lifeless suffocation by the online ecosystem. The series questions who we revere and worship today, depicting modern archetypes of influence, ambition, and unwitting celebrity with a maximalist visual vernacular inspired by the late-Baroque and Rococo and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s gritty juxtapositions. Through this, he explores the “Post-Modern malaise,” a collective sense of dismay at a cultural climate where new, digital demigods have simply replaced old monarchs, and the ramifications of this new hierarchy are felt deeply.

Chrilz’s art is a tapestry of layered critique and vulnerable humanity. His work is an invitation to look beyond the surface bombast and digital gloss to confront the beautiful, often painful, truths of life in the 21st century, all rendered with the meticulous, resonant hand of a drawer dedicated to the depths of human nature.
