在香港繁忙的街頭,一杯香滑的港式奶茶不僅是提神飲品,更是承載市井百態與文化記憶的載體。由本地孿生兄弟——崔氏兄弟(Haze 與 Long) 主理的文創項目「奶茶通俗學」(Milktealogy),便是這樣一個以奶茶為起點,深入探索和記錄香港茶餐廳文化的獨特存在。

On the bustling streets of Hong Kong, a cup of smooth and fragrant Hong Kong-style milk tea is not just a pick-me-up beverage, but a vessel carrying the lives of ordinary people and cultural memories. The creative project Milktealogy, run by local twin brothers Haze and Long Tsui, is a unique initiative that uses milk tea as a starting point to deeply explore and document the culture of Hong Kong’s Cha Chaan Teng (local cafes).

崔氏兄弟自小熱愛繪畫與創作,因兄是左撇子,兩人從小養成了左右開弓、並肩在同一張畫紙上合作的習慣。自2014年創立以來,「奶茶通俗學」已從最初的插畫和社交媒體分享,發展成一個多元化的文創品牌。他們不僅出版了《奶茶通俗學漫畫集VOL.1》和《香港茶餐廳美食圖鑑》,更將創作延伸至動畫領域。其《下午茶之狂想曲》系列動畫,以及與「香港重機」聯乘的《機動常餐》熱血機械人動畫,以充滿想像力的方式將茶餐廳文化推向國際,展現了香港創作的活力。

The Tsui brothers have loved painting and creating since childhood. As the elder brother is left-handed, they developed the habit of working side-by-side on the same piece of paper. Since its establishment in 2014, Milktealogy has grown from initial illustrations and social media sharing into a diversified cultural and creative brand. They have published “The Comix Collection of Milktealogy VOL.1” and “An Illustrated Guide to The Finest Selection of Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng,” and have extended their creations into the field of animation. Their “Teatime Rhapsody” animation series, and the anime “TransforMeal” created in collaboration with Hong Kong Machines, showcase the vitality of Hong Kong creation by promoting Cha Chaan Teng culture internationally in an imaginative way.

「奶茶通俗學」遠不止插畫。崔氏兄弟以民族誌研究的心態,堅持 「用腳開始」 每一段美味旅程,親自走訪各區茶記。他們相信,一杯奶茶的味道背後,反映了社區街坊的構成與生活節奏。因此,他們更鍾情於傳統家庭式經營的茶餐廳,在與店主的交談中,記錄下許多因時代變遷而逐漸消失的溫情故事。這些觀察與記錄,讓他們的作品超越了美食本身,成為見證香港社會變遷的珍貴檔案。

Milktealogy is far more than illustrations. With an ethnographic research mindset, the Tsui brothers insist on starting every delicious journey “with their feet,” personally visiting Cha Chaan Teng across different districts. They believe that the taste of a cup of milk tea reflects the composition and pace of life of the local community. Therefore, they have a greater affinity for traditionally family-run Cha Chaan Teng, recording many heartwarming stories that are gradually disappearing with the changing times through conversations with the owners. These observations and records make their work transcend food itself, becoming valuable archives that bear witness to Hong Kong’s social changes.

如今,「奶茶通俗學」已演變成一個完整的文創品牌,推出包括貼紙、環保袋乃至DIY沖奶茶套裝在內的周邊產品。這些產品不僅為項目提供了持續發展的資金,更意外地成為了連接海外港人的情感紐帶——許多移民在離港前特意購買,將這份具代表性的本土味道帶往世界各地。崔氏兄弟的未來願景,正是通過翻譯作品和舉行全球巡迴展覽,將茶餐廳文化這種充滿生命力的本地潮流,轉化為一種具有國際視野的文化現象,讓世界透過一杯奶茶,認識香港的獨特魅力。

Today, Milktealogy has evolved into a complete cultural and creative brand, launching peripheral products including stickers, tote bags, and even DIY milk tea brewing kits. These products not only provide sustainable funding for the project but have also unexpectedly become emotional links for Hong Kong people overseas—many emigrants specifically purchase them before leaving, taking this representative local flavor with them around the world. The future vision of the Tsui brothers is to translate their works and hold global touring exhibitions, transforming the vibrant local trend of Cha Chaan Teng culture into a cultural phenomenon with an international perspective, allowing the world to get to know Hong Kong’s unique charm through a cup of milk tea.
