He is a self-taught artist from Hong Kong; he is the manga-obsessed boy who grew up on the island of Cheung Chau; he is Man Tsang, whose brushwork is as sharp as a blade and whose artistry is profoundly poetic. Born in Hong Kong, Tsang found his lifelong passion in a house full of comics. An energetic child who could never sit still, he discovered an unwavering focus in the world of art, often immersing himself in drawing through sleepless, meal-less nights and days. While time has changed the man, his passion for painting remains undimmed.

He specializes in fine-line brushwork and complex freehand drawing, moving seamlessly between ink and digital art. With a wealth of experience in Hong Kong comic production, his understanding of the industry is profound. His work, “The Zeros,” not only won the Gold Award at the first “HK Comics Support Programme” but has been reprinted multiple times and successfully sold to markets including France, Italy, and Malaysia. This very achievement caught the attention of Disney.

This honor ultimately led him to the stage at “Star Wars Celebration 2025” in Tokyo, where it was officially announced that he would be the artist for the comic adaptation of “Star Wars: Thrawn,” based on the novel by Hugo Award-winning author Timothy Zahn. As his artwork loomed large on the screen behind him and the cheers of Star Wars fans filled the auditorium, Tsang could finally proclaim with pride “I can finally tell people, I’m drawing comics!”

In the era of rising artificial intelligence, Tsang believes it makes artists, and even humans, feel insulted and disposable. He argues that creators must now push deeper into what makes their work uniquely human. His art is a practice of this belief—imbued with the characteristics of Hong Kong comics, meticulous in detail, and vividly lifelike, it always strikes a chord with the audience.

From the Charizard in “Spurned Charizard Chronicles” to his portraits of athletes and celebrities, and to his collaborative charity T-shirts, Tsang’s creative energy is everywhere. His brush pays homage to the glory of Hong Kong cinema, cheers for local athletes, and supports Hong Kong’s comic culture on its journey to the world stage.
