The Hong Kong Interior Design Week 2025 grandly opened on June 19 at the West Kowloon Cultural District, with the spotlight project, the “Urban Reflection” exhibition, showcasing the creative collaborations of ten top Hong Kong designers and furniture manufacturers. These works, fresh from their acclaimed showcase at the Milan Design Exhibition, brilliantly interpret Hong Kong’s unique urban aesthetics and cultural fusion, serving as a vital platform to showcase the city’s design prowess on the international stage.

“Urban Reflection” at Hong Kong Design Week 2025 showcased award-winning Milan exhibits, blending Eastern crafts like bamboo with Western minimalism. Highlighting sustainability through upcycled materials like tram glass, the exhibition strengthened Hong Kong’s global design influence through local-international collaborations.

• 「Urban Reflection」展覽以香港獨特的都市景觀為創作藍本，巧妙轉譯這座高密度城市的光影互動與建築語彙。在《四葉・合聚》中，凝態建築與瑆源設計透過模組化結構，將鋼筋森林轉化為可重組的傢俱系統，隱喻都市生態的共生關係；而Bill’s Design與CycleCore合作的《叮叮》更直接取材退役電車的再生玻璃，將承載百年城市記憶的材料重塑為當代家具，完成一場跨越時空的設計對話。
• The “Urban Reflection” exhibition takes Hong Kong’s distinctive urban landscape as its creative blueprint, ingeniously translating the interplay of light and architecture in this high-density city. In “Clover Collection”, ARTA Architects Limited X Starz Origin Limited transform the concrete jungle into modular furniture systems through parametric structures, subtly mirroring urban symbiosis. Meanwhile, “Incanto di Hong Kong” by Bill’s Design Limited X CycleCore Limited repurposes retired tram glass into contemporary furniture—breathing new life into century-old materials while creating a cross-temporal design dialogue.

• 展覽同時展現香港作為文化熔爐的獨特優勢——Studio RYTE與Ricardo Lighting聯手打造的《柔竹燈》，以數位建模技術重新演繹傳統竹編工藝，讓東方素材煥發北歐極簡光暈；林子康設計與廿一由八推出的《O.N.N.O.咖啡桌》，則將中國榫卯技藝解構為現代幾何語言，實現「不用一根鐵釘」的結構詩學。這種文化混血創作，正是香港設計師回應全球化語境的獨特方式。
• The exhibition also highlights Hong Kong’s unique strength as a cultural melting pot. Studio RYTE X Ricardo Lighting Co. Ltd’s “Benboo” reinterprets traditional bamboo weaving through digital modeling, infusing Eastern materials with Nordic minimalist lighting. Meanwhile,” O.N.N.O. Coffee Table ” by Max Lam Designs Ltd X Twenty One From Eight deconstructs Chinese mortise-and-tenon joinery into contemporary geometric forms—achieving a “nail-free” structural poetry. Such cross-cultural hybridity exemplifies how Hong Kong designers respond to a globalized world with localized creativity.

• 在永續實踐層面，參展作品展現驚人的材料革命：Craft of Both與MADE合作的《Moon Series》，將回收漁網再製的再生紗線，透過參數化設計編織出月球表面般的立體紋理；Gud Gud Studio與弦制作的《時代椅子》，則以「可拆卸替換」的模組化設計，挑戰快消費時代的產品生命週期。這些實驗都指向同個核心命題——設計如何成為環境倫理的實踐載體。
• On the sustainability front, the exhibition showcases groundbreaking material innovation: Craft of Both X MADE’s “Moon Series” transforms recycled fishing nets into regenerated yarn, woven through parametric design to create lunar-inspired 3D textures. Meanwhile, Gud Gud Studio X One Production’s “Aeon Chair” challenges fast-consumption culture with its modular “replaceable parts” design. These experiments collectively address a central question—how design can become a vehicle for environmental ethics.

• 6月19日於M+博物館舉行的設計論壇，更將這些創作背後的思考過程透明化。與會設計師不約而同提到「商業與藝術的臨界點」這個關鍵課題——當《叮叮》團隊分享如何說服廠商接納電車玻璃的不可控質感時，恰恰揭露了香港設計師在市場與理想間的獨特平衡術。而米蘭展帶回來的國際反饋，例如西方買家對《柔竹燈》「非完美竹節」的審美接納，更促使本地創作者重新思考「東方性」的當代表達方式。這些第一手的產業洞察，讓展覽超越單純的美學展示，成為推動業界進化的思想平台。
• The M+ design forum (June 19) revealed Hong Kong designers’ unique balance between commerce and art – like convincing manufacturers to embrace tram glass’s unpredictable textures in “Incanto di Hong Kong”. Milan feedback, like Western buyers appreciating “Benboo‘s “imperfect nodes,” is reshaping local perspectives on contemporary Eastern design.
