Following the success of the fair in Taipei and Singapore, WHATZ Art Fair expands into Hong Kong, the inaugural WHATZ Art Curators Fair will take place at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong from the 18th to the 20th of October, showcasing works of a number of acclaimed Taiwanese artists.
5 Highlight artists:
Bilan Chang extracted partial images of human bodies, paired them with plants such as roadside weeds and ornamental flowers, then covered the bodies with decorative tile textures that transformed them into objects, pots, planters, and such. The bodies have become neutral items.

Chun-Chia Huang brings the art of painting and calligraphy into the contemporary visual realm, exploring the possibility of innovation in the art of painting and calligraphy through the experiences of the Taipei Art Fair, the Sheraton Taipei International Art Fair and the Singapore Art Fair, among others.

Ting-Ya Chang‘s works are made with the techniques of watermark woodcut. A much quieter ink color is repetitively printed on the wood plate to create multiple layers for the texture, highlighting the unique quality of its material surface and use of lines.

By sorting out the tales of Shan Hai Jing, Ching-Ting Kung followed the sacred beasts into their origins, and transformed them into symbols and images. Through sketching, superimposing and concealing, she manages to bring back the mythical realm with the help of the beasts.

Under the colorful icing, Yi-Hsin Tzeng unknowingly builds a “grotesque” style of aesthetics, which is intrusive, seductive, and uncomfortable but humorous. This monster-look image unexpectedly becomes the representation of the author’s self-identity and shows her criticism or reminder about the heterosexual society.
