CHAN KENG TIN: FIND YOURSELF IN GRASS

Indifferent tends to be the attitude we feel when we pass by grass on a daily basis. However, contemporary ink painter Chan Keng Tin uses traditional ink art to outline various forms of grass, expressing the reflection of ordinary life through the “Infinity – Chan Keng Tin Ink Art Exhibition”.

Chan used landscape or white deer as the main themes of his works. When he expanded the scale of his canvas, he made an observation that normal grass appears in various postures and that each plant depicts a different story which includes its own microscopic world. Therefore, he is determined to continue his creation and to explore the infinite expression of grass. Each small grass has its own train of thought in the inextricably intertwined grass clusters. Each of them is their own protagonist, the symbol of a boundless and ruleless existence.

The theme of his creation in “Infinity” focuses on ordinary beings, every plant and tree can be seen as a landscape or a painting. Chan believes that humans are creatures of assimilation and imitation, however, the multi-faceted feature of grass portrayed can help us return to nature and find ourselves from within.
