“The uncle’s free will is extremely strong, they do not care about the public eye, and will always follow their hearts.”
Local artist armechan has always made use of lithography and painting as his medium of creation. Two years ago, he started to use his phone to capture different individuals in the vicinity of Sham Shui Po. Among them, ‘The Uncle’, who has eye-catching outfits and behaviours has become the theme of this exhibition
Under armechan’s lens, ‘The Uncle’ has become a mobile landscape of the city, his works of art has been printed in A3 size. Afterwards, they were painted in Gouache, creating an alternate space for imagination – ‘The Uncles’ who are continuously appearing in his works of art might be misfits of the city, but they are important components of the city.
In fact, armechan considers himself as part of ‘The Uncle’ community. He is convinced that his age and daily habits are similar to them, let alone their unbreakable free will. He has unbelievable perseverance – at first glance, he might be an art creator, but upon closer inspection, he actually considers himself as a handicraftsman who always sets high standards for himself.
