Crayon Confessions: Pat Thomas’ Nostalgic Dive into Cozy Chaos

Stepping into a vibrant, crayon-sketched world where everyday rooms pulse with unspoken intimacies—friends mid-embrace on a wonky green chaise, strangers huddled over billiards in a kaleidoscope of clashing patterns. This is the cozy chaos of Pat Thomas, the London illustrator whose hand-drawn scenes reject digital perfection for raw, nostalgic feeling.

‘Monstera, Ply Bench and a Cup of Coffee’

Pat Thomas

Pat Thomas is a London-based illustrator and artist, originally from Cornwall and born in 1997. He graduated from Camberwell College of Arts in 2020, and these days he creates hand-drawn crayon works that capture these really intimate, everyday human moments. His style carries a nostalgic warmth and sense of human connection, laced with surreal, vibrant flair.

Blue Room

He started out doing fast-paced digital editorial gigs but soon pivoted to hand-drawn pieces, pulling inspiration from family photos and even his childhood crayons to bring out that sense of comfort and memory. Lately, he’s been pouring his energy into projects like Room Tour from 2025, turning his illustrations into books and posters—you can spot those posters popping up around East London.

Green Room Together

Thomas works mostly with crayons and colored pencils, loving their raw, vibrant texture and the way they embrace imperfection. He steers clear of digital tools opting instead for authentic, flawed lines on paper. His aesthetic mixes warm, kaleidoscopic colors with clashing patterns, wonky perspectives, and these recurring, expressive characters hanging out in cozy interiors.

Settlers 4/4

He builds his pieces by hand, drawing from personal references like family scenes to create these chaotic yet gentle compositions, layering on textures and letting figures converge in meaningful ways. Key elements pop up consistently: bright figures in tender poses—hugging, chatting, lounging—surrounded by patterned furniture and objects that create a surreal domesticity and emotional closeness inspired by Henry Moore sculptures and Florence Broadhurst wallpapers.
