Maybe you will have some misunderstandings about sketches. You may believe that sketching is an introductory technique for painting, so it has no artistic value. But in fact, from a sketch, you can evaluate whether a painter’s technique is mature or not, or you can even find out his/her personal characteristics. Still think it is unbelievable? You should check it out by visiting this exhibition!
Sun Museum is presenting an exhibition of “Hong Kong Modern Sketches”. On display are 56 sketch works showing how fourteen local artists apply traditional and innovative approaches to the depiction of forms with simple lines and colours.
It is often said that sketching is the foundation of painting. However, as a common medium in the artistic scene, little attention has been given to it. Today, Chinese traditional line drawing has been recognised as an independent art form. However, sketches are not popularly exhibited in Hong Kong. Hence this exhibition is organised to promote the new trends of sketching. The participating artists are from various age groups. They are LIU Cheng Mui, TSUI Yuen, ZHU Da Cheng, SHEN Ping HAU Siu Ching, HO Siu Chung Alex, LAM Man Kong, ZENG Da Mao, TSE Ching, CHEUK Hiu Kwong, POON Yeuk Fai, YIU Chu Tung, WU Chun Yin Aries and LUI Wa. These artists have developed simply drawings into a fascinating art form which can proficiently express both external forms and internal feelings.
