M+藏品東南亞的印記 | THE FRAGMENTS OF SOUTHEAST ASIA IN THE M+ COLLECTIONS

《南行覓跡 : M+藏品中的東南亞》是西九文化區 M+展亭 (M+, West Kowloon Cultural District) 第一次以特定地理區域為主題的展覽,以跨領域的方式,探索東南亞的歷史與文化。展覽展出70件作品,由28位來自九個東南亞國家,以及香港、荷蘭和美國等的現代藝術家、設計師和建築師創作,呈現由不同國家和領域的人對東南亞的陳述。雖然藝術家運用不同藝術表達方法,包括視覺藝術、流動影像、設計與建築等,但作品都和東南亞的生活式式相關。他們透過藝術和設計,回應對所身處國家的特殊情況和問題,例如氣候、歷史、政權和全球化的影響等。

展覽的跨領域和跨國界藝術館藏,能向大眾展現不同東南亞國家的異同,凸顯東南亞是一個含有多元文化的區域,從而打破大眾對東南亞區只有一個單一故事的狹隘想法。

In Search of Southeast Asia through the M+ Collections is M+’s first exhibition to concentrate on a particular geography, namely the Southeast Asia, and use an interdisciplinary lens to investigate the complex history and culture in this region. This exhibition has presented 70 works that are created 28 artists, designers and architects from 9 Southeast Asian countries, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and the US, so as to demonstrate the narrations of Southeast Asia varies in the eye of people come from different nations and disciplines. Although the artists have used distinct types of art, which includes visual arts, moving image, design, and architecture etc., all their artworks are related to the daily life in Southeast Asia. Through the art and design, the artists comment on the specific conditions and problems about the country they lived in, for example, the climate and history, as well as dealing with the issue of politics and globalization.

The approach of showcasing the interdisciplinary and transnational items in this exhibition can reveal the similarities and variations of different countries in Southeast Asia. Additionally, it highlights that Southeast Asia is a region with vast and diverse cultural practices.
