Gongbi is a classical Chinese painting style, emphasizing the precision of details and use of colors. As a new-generation local Gongbi artist, Cherie Cheuk attempts to weave modern themes into traditional art forms, opening up audience’s imagination towards Gongi painting. Setting up a studio in a suburban location deepens her perception of the world, which eventually inspires her to create nature-themed artwork.

Cherie Cheuk was born in Hong Kong in 1989. In 2012, Cheuk graduated with a Fine Art degree in Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2017, Cheuk completed her Master’s degree in CUHK, specializing in Chinese Gongbi painting. Subject matters mainly revolve around memory, time, nature, laws of universe, emotions and thoughts. Her artwork also interrogates the development of Gongbi after it reached its peak in Northern Song Dynasty, namely how to rejuvenate this traditional Chinese art form in the contemporary world.
